Steal Shit Do Drugs, Seattle band comprised of Erika Mayfield, Kennedy Carda, Pete Capponi, and Nicki Danger, is playing CHBP for the third time on Sunday, July 22 at 6:45 at the Cha Cha Stage. Their sets are described as, “a dark, messy rock show.” Carda says it’s, “meant to be a little wild and indulgent of letting loose but also aware of the full range of human emotion.”
Each member of SSDD has previously played in other bands, which is important to the atmosphere they create onstage, Carda says, because “there’s a certain level of experience needed to create that. Or at least maintain it.” Keeping this stage presence is important because Carda finds “the most joy performing and the rest of life I just kinda stumble through.” Outside of the band, the major contributor to their musicality is “drugs.”
SSDD is heavily influenced by The Stooges, The Fall, The Cramps, and The Scientists. The content of their songs range from, “being a weirdo punk [and] the way [they] view the world [to] drugs and the want to be loved.”
Their favorite local artists include Spesh, Dream Decay, Haunted Horses, Dyed, and Deep Creep. Favorite things about Ballard are Golden City, The Smoke Shop, and The Sloop.
SSDD will be touring in the Fall and are currently working on a new album to be released in 2019. Listeners can find SSDD’s music on Spotify and Bandcamp and follow along for updates on Facebook and Instagram. As for an end goal as a band, Carda says, “I guess we will eventually break up.”
